My First Conversation with Evie

My baby girl is getting so big!

We've been passing a cold around this week. Evie woke up around 10:00 the other night, just when Chris was trying to get to bed a little early. Instead of taking her into our bed and disturbing Chris' sleep, I brought her onto the couch and we watched a little television together.

She was just beautiful in her little footie pajamas, with her sweet head on her tiny pink pillow. And then we had the best conversation (for a one-year-old!)

Evie: Pillow.
Me: Right, that's your pillow.
Evie: Pink. Uniqua.
Me: Yes, the pillow is pink like Uniqua.
Evie: Auntie
Me: Yes, Aunt Rachel made you that pillow.
Evie: New car.
Me: Right, Aunt Rachel just bought a new car!
Evie: Moos.
Me: Yes, we drove to Maggie Moos in Aunt Rachel's new car.
Evie: Joe.
Me: Yes, Aunt Rachel lives with Uncle Joe.
Evie: Raja house.
Me: Right! Raja lives at their house! You are so smart! Now, go to sleep!

That's great! I don't know if you remember, but a month or two ago on Dooce, she wrote about how she and her daughter had a real conversation in the car.

I've been cherishing that thought. I love the baby stage we're in, but the idea of asking Iain's opinion and getting a reply is enticing. Just think: one day soon Evie will say, "Mommy, I think people underestimate the value of reasoned discourse in a republic. Can we talk about that?"

How fun will *that* be?

I am totally laughing at Fiona's comment...

I have a prediction--it may only happen once, but it will happen. The words, "Can you stop talking for just two minutes? Please?"

And you'll think back fondly to a time, perhaps like the one on the couch last evening.

Footie pajamas...I just love them. I am so sad that they don't make them in sizes bigger than 24 mos (at least that I've found).

Oh, those wheels are just turning in her brain, aren't they? Amazing how early they start putting two and two together.

oh so sweet...

i love having those little conversations with avery - the ones where you figure out just how much and how quickly they absorb everything around you. it's amazing.

It's much more fun to "chat" with my 2 year old or my (almost)4 year old than with my Sassy 7 year old! :)

Wow! That's really impressive. But I love the most is that you both knew exactly what you were saying to each other :)

That is incredibly sweet! I love the way she connects things!

Now I'm sure Esme has similar things to say - but I haven't figured out the connections yet, and it's hard to make out the words without the connections! :)
